Multi-Step Repeats for created swim workouts

Former Member

I was trying to create a swim workout for my 735xt. I love that you can make a custom workout but for some reason I can't make a multi-step repeat like I can with the running and cycling workouts. Am I missing something or is there some way to create those workouts.

Thanks,

Trent

    Bump

Did you get an answer to this? I've just started putting together some swim workouts for my new 735XT and have come across the same issue.
  • Am I missing something or is there some way to create those workouts.
I'd say you're missing an appreciation for (or just wilfully overlooking) the possibility that your observation is correct – you cannot create multi-step repeats in swim workouts as you can in run workouts. It would make more sense if you had asked, “Am I missing something, or is there no way to create those workouts?”

There is no unassailable logic in extrapolating the (user's) ability to create multi-step repeats in run workouts to every distinct type of workout selectable.

Rejoice! This is indeed possible. I just managed to do it. But it requires reverse engineering and some command line knowledge. Attached screenshot for proof. Note that distance adjusts correctly when number of sets is changed.

    So, seems that either:

    1) This functionality was written into the web frontend and then removed.
    2) It's just an oversight, and for some reason it was not enabled.
    3) ???

If this seems useful for others please follow-up in this thread and I may release it as a command line utility.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1230458.png

Turns out you can even put repeats inside other repeats. Swim workout inception.

Oh my gosh, how'd you do this?!!! It's so stupid you cannot create multi steps or nested repeats in the swim workout builder. On top of that, they put a limit on the number of steps you can have in a swim workout so you can't even build a proper workout with a bunch of repeats! Something as simple as 6x(4x50, 200) cannot be built using this stupid interface by the time you add a warmup, drills, and cool down. So frustrating.

theli0nheart How did you actually get that to work? All I see are your pictures, but no explanation of steps taken. Thanks,

how did you do this? Some instructions would be very helpful!!
  • Why is this disabled for swims? Also can't export / import swim workouts from Training Peaks which allows you much more flexibility.
  • This would be SO useful - please can you let me know how you managed it!
