So I have this route I did on Sunday
Somewhere in ~ the 21st mile my "lap" notice went off (programmed to go off on 5 mile increments). This is a well used club route and I was using a printed map with turn by turn instructions. Total was documented as being 45 miles.
when I hit mile 26 (according to my garmin) the guide map claimed I should be at mile 21. While I'd expect some discrepancies, I've never had this much difference. Figured it may correct itself as I got done... never did. Garmin claimed 50.6 while (as said) route claimed to be 45. Also, elevation gain on map claimed 1415', Garmin claims 4,637', with online correction (this I KNOW is wrong).
So I thought I'd upload this to Garmin Connect and see what was actually tracked. Maybe the route would be corrected to match closer to what the map was claiming.
Well, this proved to be wrong, and to make matters worse, the route from the Garmin shows this long unused out/back stretch from Baker City/Hillsboro? This wasn't calculated in the mileage (that would have been some trip!) but for some reason it's in the logic of the trip (though it would appear that the online Garmin elevation correction process it is). Can someone explain what might have caused this? Yes, it's an older Garmin model, but I would have expected it to fail altogether rather then making stuff up. But hey, I'll take the bonus mileage and elevation gain (even as small as it is).
