Unexplained Track

Today, I took a short walk in the park, mostly testing the GPS capibilities of the new VSHR+ I just purchased. I was pretty pleased with the track, as I'm not in training for anything, just a 68 year old man trying to outrun an early demise. I'm not sure if this should go in the Garmin Connect forum, or perhaps the Vivosmart HR+ forum, moderator, if it should be moved, please forgive first, then move.. :-)

However, When I got home, I sync'd the activity, and it looked good in Garmin Connect.

But, when I imported it into My GPS Files, there's a "spur" (for want of a better word) that leads out into the South Atlantic Ocean, off the west coast of Africa!

Next is a pic of where the spur leaves the normal track, it's just a tangent. Can anyone explain what's happening here?

  • Forgot to add

I exported both .GPX, and .TCX file formats with the same results.
Further investigation provides that exporting the GPX, .TCX, or the .FIT file into SportTracks3 provides a valid track. Also, a bike ride I did yesterday, provides a good exported track in MyGPSFiles, so I'm wondering if it's some sort of artifact that just happened with this one track. Odd..
  • HA! Solved it, (sort of)

Okay, I guess I've just explained to myself my own theory as to what is/was going on here. The errant track is as best as I can tell EXACTLY at the point of the LAP Counter went from lap 1 to lap 2.

I have no idea why it did that, some sort of hiccup, but for me, I've solved it, because I don't use the lap counter. Now to go figure out how to turn it off, and my problem is solved. If anyone else has the same problem, well, at least this is a start.
