Finished 5K Training Plan - Now what?

I was using the Level 1 5K training plan that I loaded onto my watch from Garmin Connect and just finished it! I ran my 5K today.

Now I want to continue my training, but I'm not sure how to proceed. I love how this last plan was different every week and improved my fitness in increments.

I want to try the 10K training plan, but it looks like it's starting from square 1 with super easy runs at the beginning.

Any recommendations?
  • Training is a progression and should be structured so that you don't over train. A well-structured plan will target specific areas of your physiology and allow recovery between sessions. What you should find, as you get fitter, is that you will be faster at those same intensities. If you always seek to train at race pace, you'll end up without a pace to race with.

If you really want to see improvement, find a coach and have a plan tailored to your specific strengths and weaknesses. Freely available online plans can only go so far.

Try to avoid posting the same thing in multiple threads.
  • just take the wanted 10K plan and look through the weeks till you find the level you think you are capable of starting at and set the starting date the same amount off weeks backwards that way you will start on for example week 7 instead of week 1
