downloaded GPX file goes to lat 0 long 0 ??

Hi
After downloading a .GPX file from Garmin Connect and looking at the route/track in Memory Map (UK ordinance survey map software) I am getting way points that are appear to be at Lat 0 Long 0 (i.e. at the equator!). It seems that my Garmin 310xt is possibly losing satellite signal and going to some sort of default. The routes on Memory Map look ok for a few miles then zoom off to the equator and back in a short distance then carry on as normal until the next blip. The overall stats look ok in terms of distance, speed altitude etc. Anyone else come across this problem?
Any help gratefully received.
Cheers
Gary B.
  • I've seen a few reports about this over the years, seem to recall it's fixed by a master reset but if not the device needs exchanging as it's faulty.

Thanks for that. I have done the master reset, will see if it makes a difference on my next ride.

    Fixed

    Many thanks for the help.
The master reset seems to have done the trick, 30 miles today perfectly tracked when up loaded into Memory Map.
    Thanks again

By chance, in the activities were people have seen 0,0 coordinates in GPX outputs did you ever use the "Resume Later" option, if it's available on your watch?

I just reported a similar issue to Garmin and they are investigating. In my case I was using the Hiking activity on my fenix 3 HR. On two occasions I stopped the activity and selected Resume Later. The activity maps on Garmin Connect Mobile and Garmin Connect Online appears fine. It also appears fine in Basecamp. So everything suggests that the data recorded by the watch is fine. However, when I exported from Garmin Connect Online to either GPX or TCX there were a cluster of 0,0 coordinates at both points of the track when the activity had been resumed. Interestingly, if I export from Basecamp the resulting GPX file does not contain those errant data points.

It's entirely possible that when I resumed my activity it had not yet reacquired a location lock. So for the first several seconds of recording it didn't know its location. That's understandable. However, where Basecamp is intelligent enough to recognize and exclude those data points from the GPX file, Garmin Connect Online is not.

Until that is fixed, if you are experiencing this issue and a reset of the watch doesn't address it (which may be fixing an entirely different issue with the watch itself), I'd suggest trying to export the GPX file from Basecamp instead of Garmin Connect and see if that produces better results for you.

Even if a reset of your watch fixes the issue for you going forward, I'd be curious if Basecamp can produce a better GPX file for the past activities you had a problem with. Maybe it can salvage a better GPX file for those past activities to replace the bad one from Garmin Connect.
