Fenix 3 stuck in the middle

Hey,

can any of the experts online provide me with clues, answers, tips, ...
Monday latest, 08/08, after a training, connected my Fenix 3 (HR) to a MacBook for uploading and syncing.
Garmin express is used as a standard.
It sync'd the training data of the past few days and at the same time an update (software and new training calendar?) was pushed through in the other direction.

Since then the watch is stuck. Stuck on the "Garmin" logo screen.
The below tips and tricks for resetting and rebooting don't work. By now tried a dozen times.
https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?227684-Hard-reset-Service-menu-Data-Backup

Connecting it back to the laptop, doesn't do a thing since the screen/watch remains "stuck".
The current soft/firmware version should be 7.50 (according Express), according to Connect it is up-to-date.

Becoming slightly desperate since this is our 3rd Garmin watch having issues in about 2 months time. (previously a Forerunner and Vivosmart)
What can be done about this?

Thanks in advance,
kr - joris.
  • If you've tried the hard reset method 2 at the link you posted and you definitely can't get it to respond, then you've really got no other route than to contact Garmin Customer Support (I recommend phoning them, rather than email/webform, for a hardware issue such as this)

In my year and a half of F3 ownership I've only had to use the that hard reset method 2 once, when one of the past beta software versions didn't quite install correctly. It's worth noting I had to leave the watch for half an hour or so after carrying out the procedure, whilst it did whatever it was doing to reset itself, before I got anything other than the Garmin logo screen up.

Edit: I also note you mention you have a Fenix 3 HR, for which the correct software version should be 3.50 not 7.50 as that's the Fenix 3 (non HR version) latest software. If Garmin Express has incorrectly sent the Fenix 3 software rather than the Fenix 3 HR software to your device, then that might be what has caused the issue. If there's any way of viewing your Fenix 3 HR as a USB drive, you could try downgrading to 3.20 from the file contained in the 3.40 beta download from Garmin here http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=10271 (just follow the instructions at the bottom of that page describing how to revert to 3.20).
  • Hi Crispin,

    thanks for the feedback.
Method 2 was used several times (+4), with the watch easily laying about / around for a few hours even. Though no result ...

Will contact my retailer or the Garmin Customer Support as per your suggestion.

  • Just added some further info to my first post, in case you are able to mount your F3 HR as a USB drive with your Mac.
  • Hi Crispen,

thanks for the help and feedback.

The issue was "complete". As such that upon reconnecting with the USB to my laptop (Garmin Express, etc ...) the Fenix 3 (HR) wasn't responding anymore. So also no typical icon or similar appeared in the explorer/finder ... thus there was no possibility to "grasp" the watch/issue and start tackling it.

    Also called the Support Center.
Conclusion: sir, if you tried all these things there is nothing else I can do for you. You'll have to return the watch.

Which I eventually did, yesterday afternoon.
I recheck in Express and indeed it states that the (software) version is 7.50.
How this happen'd is something for Garmin to figure out.

The annoying fact now being that the lead time for repairs etc ... is about 6 to 8 weeks I was informed ... so there goes the training logging, data, records, ... :(
  • 6-8 weeks seems really poor; my past experiences of Garmin CS in UK has been far more responsive than that. Let's just hope that once the Garmin folks get your watch they'll realise it's a fault with the watch and send back a replacement immediately by return post.
