Do old activities drop off segment leaderboards?

I understand that the segment leaderboards are having issues at the moment - but even before the current issues I've noticed this behavior. On segments I *know* I've crossed (since I created the segment from an activity), I will be dropped off the leaderboard. It seems to be the case only on segments that I haven't crossed in some time.

I don't mind if this is the expected behavior, I'm just wondering since I can't find it documented anywhere...

I think that you are seeing a known major bug with Segments. It appears that athlete performance data more than 12 months old does not appear in on Segment Leaderboards. A simple check is to use the time filter (to the right of "Everyone") and see if there is a difference between "All" and "Last 12 months". You will probably find that the two sets of results are the same!
