Workout question: Warm up vs Rest vs Cool down

Hi,

I'm working on creating a decent workout :D

What is the difference between those three? (look in the title)
What is the difference between those three and "Easy run"?

If the activity is "Run" then I automatically think that I need to run (or at least jog). Does "Rest" between intervals mean I need to stop? But that would ruin Running stats etc etc.

Or are those Warm up, Rest etc. are completely up to me and my understanding of the warm up and rest pace?

    Just their labels, which your watch will show to you upon hitting each step. If you're perverse enough, you can create a workout that starts with a Cool Down step, followed by a Rest step, followed by a Warm Up step. I tried just now, and I can tell you that Garmin Connect online allows that kind of nonsense.

    That's entirely up to you. It doesn't really matter whether you choose to label an active recovery step between sprints “Recover” or “Rest”.

    Or are those Warm up, Rest etc. are completely up to me and my understanding of the warm up and rest pace?
    Not just the intensity targets, but the actual semantic meanings of the labels and where the components ought to sit in a structured workout.
  • but why not use the labels for real and combine them into the statistics, so you can track down your interval training in parts.

    even better is to be able to compare them with eachother and voila you can track your progression in speed/distance vs HR

    is not that hard ...

    Hi,

    I am sure there are 2 types of breaks in intervals. The one that allows for full recovery, and does not matter if it takes you to rest 100m, or 200m of jog, as the goal is to start another bout of work rested. The other is meant to provide partial recovery, as fatigue is supposed to acumulate, but not excessively. This one - if it is said to be 100m, next bout starts after you jog 100m.

    No idea which - Rest or Cool down - is which of the above types.
