Connect Data Not Showing Correctly

Former Member

Hello,

I have a Edge Touring and a vivoactive watch. Once both are synced and I then look at my steps it shows my steps correctly but then show's the total distance of walking AND cycling.

For example, yesterday I walked 6'867 steps, showing as 3.57 miles.

After I synced my Edge it added the cycling (11.13 miles) to this total, now showing 14.7 miles.

So now Connect shows 6'867 steps, 14.7 miles and 3'580 calories.

I turn the vivoactive off while cycling so not to duplicate any movement.

Anyone know how I can resolve this?

I've found the same thing (using Vivoactive HR to record cycling activities).

Conversely, calories calculated from cycling are NOT added into total calories! They are shown in Active Calories (Health Stats> Calories in the GC app) but only walking (steps) calories are counted, along with rest calories in the total. Up until 8th June the cycling appears to be added in - I don't know what changed then.

I've also found that resting heart rate is displayed as too high for any selected period - the number displayed is generally higher than virtually every day's resting rate - but a more consistent number is given in the text if you tap "Help" at the top right of the app screen.

Finally (for now) the total step count for the most recent 7 days doesn't include anything recorded during the current day. I found that out when I'd been out walking after a quiet week step-wise and noticed that the "last 7 days" total was less than the current day's total. When I added them up "the last 7 days" figure was actually the total of the previous 6 days!

I reported these via the email option from Help>Feedback >Report a Problem in the app menu but don't know if they were received as there was no acknowledgement (even an auto-response would be nice).

    Rick.
  • I wrote about this to Garmin support last April.

    This was their response.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I am happy to assist you with this. The distance included in your step widget includes the distance from the recorded activities. This is by design.

If you would like to view your steps distance for a particular day, please follow these steps.

    • Sign into your Garmin Connect Account
    • Click on the three horizontal bars in the top left hand corner
    • Select steps from the popout menu
    • Use the arrows towards the top of the page to toggle back to the day in question
    • Down towards the bottom of the page please select the activities tab
    • Your distance for steps and your activities should be listed here

It seems to me that the real issue is that total distance is shown in a steps widget. If it were called anything else, it wouldn't be an issue

Yeah, it being shown in the steps widget is what's thrown me, also messes the calories part up, in the steps widget, but I'm not bothered about that.

    Cheers for the replies.
