invalid Garmin Connect authorization key error - anyone else?

Former Member

Resolution: Upgrade to Garmin Express. I was using ANT Agent software which is no longer supported.

Is anyone else getting an "Invalid Garmin Connect Authorization Key" error when syncing? Just started today..I had to first force send, and near the end of the send I am receiving this error.

Thanks!

How about an actual solution, Garmin???

I'm so tired of dealing with this same issue. What a joke. I've wasted hours trying to get it to work. Never ending fail despite uninstalling, reinstalling, etc, etc, and no luck whatsoever... But wait, "upload successful"....but wait, no it's not - "Encountered an invalid Garmin Connect(tm) authorization key..." Wonderful.

invalid Garmin Connect authorization key error - anyone else?

Same issue here - it took about 3 hours to finally d'l on Wednesday night, and I spent about 4 hours growing more and more angry on Thursday night, trying to d/l my commutes. I haven't changed anything on my PC, (well, I have now; reinstalling ANT and GE a couple of times) and I still keep getting the same error messages and request that AZJOHNNYX posted a pic of, to enter my authorisation code.

Garmin online support is no use; sadly this may be the final straw for me as I am sick and tired of this stuff happening - apart from taking 10-15 minutes to acquire sats 20% of the time (frustrating when my commute is generally 15 min,) and flaky software, having to hear at least a dozen beeps every time I turn the thing off is irritating s well. Can we have an off function that isn't 4 layers deep in the menu?

Plenty of alternative brands out there for HRM/GPS so it looks like I am getting an early xmas present.

Edit to say, I'm glad I'm not the only person getting this error - looks like it's a Garmin thing...

All I want to do is see how fast I rode home.

Final edit - my tracks eventually d/l'd, with GE. Not sure if it made a difference but I read on one of the many, many threads talking about Garmin software issues that starting the sat search helped someone - I tried that and it worked.

Now, how about just making it work by clicking the sync button, like it's supposed to?
  • I'm also getting this error. You don't just drop support like that without some warning on the user's Garmin Connect page. It's very unprofessional.

I need the Ant agent because I use 3rd party apps with Training Center for uploading routes to my watch.
I also sometimes need to modify my activity details (fix heart rate spikes etc) before uploading to Garmin Connect. Can't do that with Express.
    Is there a fix planned?

    Possible Solution...?

Okay, so gave it one more try last night and it worked. Ran this morning and it also worked. Here's what I did - hopefully it helps. (Win 7 Pro OS).

    Reinstalled, then started/opened Garmin Express
Added my current old school Garmin 405CX - successfully paired it.
Left ANT Agent installed, but did not open it (that seemed to be my problem all along - I had it open the entire time thinking "how can I upload if the ANT Agent isn't running?" Made sure it was fully closed in the taskbar tray and in Task Manager (CTRL ALT - DEL).
Left the ANT stick plugged into the USB.
Went and ran 14 miles in the desert in 90* and high-ish humidity.
Opened Garmin Express - hit "Sync". First sync failed after 10 seconds, clicked sync again and my watch said "transferring"...within about 3 or 4 minutes the run showed up on Garmin Connect (and I tie it to Strava and it went there too.).

Thanks Johnny - pretty frustrating but great when it all works.
  • Same issue with a 310XT and a Swim

Having the same issue on both my 310 and my Swim.
And, i'm having it both on my desktop (which doesn't have Express) and my laptop (which does). Both worked on Tuesday and Wednesday, then yesterday suddenly not.
    Argh.

I prayed that this would fix the problem but it didn't for me. Everything was fine until Friday and I got that stupid authorisation message about 30 times today. I've also wasted 3 hours today plotting a trail and I can't see it on a map. I have to go out again tomorrow and use a paper and pencil. Thanks Garmin.

    Had to use Garmin Express

After also wasting a few hours on this - by unfortunate coincidence I'd also replaced my Ant+ stick on the same day, as the 2-year old Garmin one was failing - I eventually discovered I had to install Garmin Express instead of Ant Agent.
The good news is, that works fine.
The bad news is that neither SportTracks nor Training Center recognise the device any more - they just say there's no data.
So now I have to navigate to the Fit files and upload them each time for each application I use.

Very frustrating, when the "old" application was more functional than its replacement :-/

Bummer. Returned from vacation to upload mine. Made sure ANT Agent was not running. Opened Garmin Express and...uploads failed about 5 times in 10 minutes, then uploaded all my runs successfully after another try. Guess I'm just "lucky"...
