Manual uploading

Just realised that I can't use original Connect any more and stuck with the new abomination which gives me way to much.
I have questions.
How do I manually upload from my 800?
I don't want to send them to the pc then to Connect.

How do I save the one dashboard I need? Every time I open Connect I get all sorts of junk, not my dashboard which is what the old version used to do. I want the dashboard to be the only opening screen.

Finally what is going on with Express? Its on my PC. However when ever I go to Connect I get a message telling me that I need express. I can't download it as I get messages telling me that, correctly, its already downloaded. What does it do anyway.
Why oh why do people mess with something that works?

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Since your Garmin Edge‑800 does not have its own Internet connectivity, of course you have to go through an Internet-connected device such as a PC (running Garmin Express) or a mobile handset (running Garmin Connect Mobile) as a conduit to the cloud-based Garmin Connect service.

If you want to manually import an activity file created by and retrieved from the Edge‑800, you:
    • Go to the Menu
    • Select Activities
    • Select the Import button
    • Choose the file you’d like to import from your computer. We support .TCX, .FIT and .GPX files. GPX files must include time information.

Changes you made/make to the layout of any dashboard are persistent across sessions; there is no need to expressly save a dashboard.

Every tab of the landing page is a dashboard.

I want the dashboard to be the only opening screen.
You can delete the other dashboards so that only the one you want remains.
On the help page for Garmin Connect, under How do I create a new dashboard?, it says,
Use the small arrow beside the name of a dashboard to change the name or delete the dashboard.

I don't know if there is a way to designate a particular dashboard/tab as the default. In Safari browser on my Mac, the most recently accessed dashboard is what gets shown if I close the browser tab that is showing Garmin Connect online, and then open a new browser tab and go to it by bookmark; there's probably a cookie for that piece of information somewhere.

The why doesn't matter, and your (or my) preferences from the user perspective don't matter. You just learn to use what's provided (free of charge at that) as best you can.
