Import VivoSmart HR heart rate data to Edge 200 Activity in Connect

Hi All,

My first post.

I've been using an Edge 200 for a year now and quite happy with it. I've now taken on a Vivosmart HR and looking for a way to import the HR data to my Edge 200 activities in Garmin Connect. I know I can add them manually and add average HR and max HR but would be great if the this data, between the same time stamps, could be imported to the Edge 200 activity.

Thanks
  • No, I don't think you can do that in Garmin Connect.

More generally, using two (or more) separate data streams from sources that are operated independently – with no integration, communication or synchronisation between them at ‘runtime’ – to enrich the record of an event is not really viable. If the only thing you rely on as a common frame of reference is time-of-day, but the devices are not expressly synchronised (directly with each other, or via authoritative third-party reference data from GPS satellites or a given NTP server), then there is no guarantee that a data point in data stream‑A and a data point from data stream‑B with identical timestamps actually occurred concurrently.

It's not a ‘problem’ worth solving with software post-processing, either, because using a system with multiple integrated sensors, coordinated by a single data collection application prevents the issue from arising – and such systems already exist in the consumer fitness market. The vívosmart‑HR can broadcast heart rate data it collects in real-time to compatible activity tracking devices over ANT+ in real-time; however, your ">‑200">Edge‑200 falls short of supporting the use of external paired sensors while it tracks and records a cycling activity.

You said you're quite happy with your Edge‑200 so far, but perhaps now you have cause to reassess your level of satisfaction with your IT landscape in the face of changing requirements, i.e. now that you wish to enrich records of your cycling activity with heart rate data, for which you know you have the hardware/facility to collect.
  • Thanks for taking the time for your detailed response. I appreciate what you say and indeed did reassess my IT landscape so I returned the vivosmart HR and bought a vivoactive HR. It covers the areas I need and find it very comfortable to wear. The option to add further Ant+ devices in future makes it a good all round solution for me.

    Thanks again
