Linking Vivofit and Forerunner data?

Hi, I wear a Vivofit 24/7 but have recently bought a Forerunner 15 to wear when I am running, to get more accurate data for distance, etc. I have them both on Connect and when I sync the Forerunner the data shows up as an activity but the steps, calories, etc do not add on to my daily steps, etc screen so it is not combining the data. Is there a way to do this, as my dailies can be showing as 5 miles done and it reduces my goal for the next day but I have ran 10 miles in addition to this 5. Any suggestions guys?
  • I have exactly the same setup as you.

I use a vivofit 2 to track daily steps and only put my Forerunner15 on to record running activities.

You must make sure that the Vivofit is setup as your step tracker and you must be wearing it in addition to your Forerunner during your runs. Otherwise you will not be credited for the steps during the run.

When you upload your running activities you will not see a step count within that running activity summary but your step count will taken care of via the vivofit. Active calories will be dealt with via the Forerunner activity.

Using this setup is very handy because you don't have to worry about losing steps or sleep data while the Forerunner is charging (if you were using it as the primary step tracker). It also means that you can still track simple activities like walking using the vivofit if you don't happen to be wearing the Forerunner.

I don't quite understand your final question. Are you running 5 miles with the Forerunner and running another 5 with only the vivofit? Are you starting timed activities for both of these events?

Hi, thanks for your reply. I was taking off my vivofit as didn't want to be wearing two watches, had hoped that the data would sync together, oh well guess I need to wear both then, ta.
  • Anybody heard if Garmin is considering ta add possibility for combining steps from multiple devices? Would think this is quite eay to do.

  • You can only have one "step tracker" active on your account at any given time, and if you switch during the day, you'll likely lose steps.. It's been this way for a long time, and people have requested a change in this for probably a year+.

In the case of the VF and Fr15, the only solution is to wear them both when recording a run.

When I got a fr15 after having a vf, I simply stopped wearing the VF and set the fr15 as my step tracker and wore it all the time.

    Fenix 3 and VA

    Hi,

Didn't want to create another thread as I have a similar question, mostly about switching activity tracker on garmin connect back and forth. I've been using a Vivoactive as my daily driver for a while now and got a Fenix 3 last week after they went on sale. Couldn't really pass that opportunity.
I play soccer on Saturdays and track how much I run with my vivoactive. So now that I got a Fenix 3, I plan to use it every day as an activity tracker and switch to the vivoactive on Saturday morning, to track my activity and get the soccer steps counted for that day and then switch back to the fenix 3 activity tracker on Sunday. Would that work?

    Thanks
  • It can work but switching is somewhat clumsy.

All of this should be done the very first thing in the morning.

    • sync your Fenix to pick up the last steps for the day before and sleep.
    • sync the vivoactive
    • make the vivoactive your primary tracker

    Reverse the process on Sunday.

That being said, why wouldn't you just track your soccer with the Fenix?

Thanks, I'll try it next weekend.
Well, my initial plan was to sell my VA, but I didn't realize how heavier and taller the fenix is. I was planning to wear a sweatband over it to protect it from scratches too. I just don't want to accidentally hit someone with my trailing arm when tackling someone or jumping for the ball.
  • vivofit & forerunner 225

Hi I just purchased the Forerunner 225. I also have vivofit with small band which I wear everyday. The Forerunner is too huge to wear everyday and will be used just to track workouts only. I am just starting to train and will be using Forerunner every other day with runs. I saw that I have to wear both to track steps and set vivofit as activity tracker. I have ant on my computer for vivoft and both devices have been paired with phone. What do you recommend to have both information captured? Is there something special I need to do to get Forerunner information sent over to Connect for it to be displayed as well?
  • Just sync sleep and steps from the vf and your activities from the FR.
