Course generation & turn notification

I've had a Fenix 3 for about 15 months, and it's always annoyed me that GC doesn't generate turn waypoints when creating a course. I can follow the breadcrumbs while running reasonably well, but it's impractical while cycling with the F3 on my wrist. And quite frankly, I don't want the display set to the map the entire time, I want to be able to see my speed, distance etc.

A store where I live has an offer on the Edge 25, the mini bike computer, so I got one specifically for this purpose. I was pleasantly surprised to get turn notifications when using it with a course designed using GC. I assumed that the device was doing something clever and analyzing the route to look for deviations which it can interpret as turns, and thought no more of it. At least the issue was resolved for me while cycling.

Then I heard that the brand new 735XT also did this. Now, this was annoying - the 735XT is meant to be the mid-range multisport watch, and the F3 is meant to be the high-end one - and yet, the 735XT has a feature theF3 doesn't.

So I did some digging. I generated a course on GC and sent it to my Edge 25. I then plugged the Edge 25 into my computer and copied that course off, and then copied it onto my F3. Lo and behold, I got turn notifications on my F3 on a course solely designed on GC.

So this begs the question. Why doesn't GC send the waypoint info when generating a course for the F3? It's meant to be a high-end watch and can obviously cope with the generated files, so the sole restriction must be an arbitrary decision made on the GC side of things. For what reason, I can only speculate.

I'm aware that Garmin staff rarely (if ever) speak up in this forum, but if you own a device that can handle waypoints but don't get them sent by GC, I suggest you send a message to this form asking for this already-existing functionality to be enabled for your device: http://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/
