Garmin Connect sometimes think I'm in Japan, not Adelaide

I've never been to Japan, let alone rode a bike there.

Sometimes my activities upload with the correct time zone. Sometimes they upload with Japan Standard as the time zone. I live in Adelaide, 35 degrees South of the equator. Japan is 35 degrees North of the equator at the same longitude.

My Edge 520 downloaded a new time zone map recently, but that doesn't seem to have fixed it.

Strava has the correct time applied, just Garmin Connect is wrong. Easily fixed, but annoying to have to do it on 50% of my rides.

I'm syncing through my phone. USB still had the same problem sometimes, so I conclude it's Garmin Connect.

Anyone else have similar problems?
  • I was advised by Garmin to do a Factory Reset on my 520. That did not help as my ride home from work yesterday uploaded to the wrong time zone. My ride to work was fine.

I have attached the two files. Is there anything in them to indicate what time zone is in use? They transfer across to Strava with the correct time.

I used Garmin Connect Mobile on my Galaxy S4 to upload the files (I have automatic upload enabled). Everything is up-to-date.

And it only happens some of the time? Weird!
I'd suggest having a look at this thread:
    https://forums.garmin.com/archive/index.php/t-29422.html

But if your timezone settings are already set correctly in Garmin Connect, then I have no clue what can be wrong...
I tried to export your files to .csv using http://garmin.kiesewetter.nl/ but the website keeps crashing, after uploading to Garmin Connect I can only export splits to .csv and that doesn't give me any time zone data...
  • It seems to be only when I leave from work. It's an annoyance, but not really a big deal as at the moment I only use Garmin Connect as a means to get my data to Strava. Strava is where all my cycling data has ended up as it is independent of device (I switched from Polar at the end of March, so my history on Garmin is only part of the story).

All my settings are correct within Garmin Connect (the time zone is set correctly in the settings), my phone has automatic time setting from the network, the Edge gets the time from GPS and is correct. There is nothing in the TCX export to indicate time zone.

I have a location set so that elevation is correct when I start, but I noted the problem occurred before I had that set, so I don't think that's a factor.
