Connect IQ Suffer Score app questions

Hi all, I'm new to the Suffer Score concept and have some questions. I currently have the Suffer score app downloaded on my Fenix 3 HR and have made a couple of attempts to use it. I set a RHR and a max HR, but the score never changes from 0.

1. Do I need to be a Strava Premium user? The description in the app sounds like this isn't the case unless I want to save and track the score. I currently only use the free version.
2. Does it only work for GPS activities?
3. Do I have to have Strava running at the same time for the suffer score to work?

Thanks for any help here.
  • I don't know how it applies specifically on the fēnix‑3‑HR, but based on what I've seen (on my FR235, etc.):
    • No. I don't have a Strava account at all, and the Strava Live Suffer Score data field still worked on my runs.
    • I don't believe so, since GPS and/or speed data does not appear to be relevant, according to this, “The Strava Suffer Score is an analysis of your heart rate data and is available on Strava as a Premium feature. By tracking your heart rate through the ride and its level relative to your maximum heart rate, we attach a value to show exactly how hard you worked.” and also this, “It's not how fast or how far you go: Suffer Score measures how hard you try. When you provide Strava with your heart rate data and train with a heart rate monitor, we'll rank every activity with a Suffer Score.”
    • No.
  • Thanks for the information. I wish I could figure out why it isn't working!
