Forerunner connecting to phone, but not app

So this has been happening off and on, but never for an extended period of time. For over two days, my watch has not been able to connect to the Garmin Connect app, although it is connecting to my phone. I've powered my phone on and off, reset the settings for the app, closed and reopened the app. Thoughts?

    Time and again, I belatedly found that after an automatic update of the Garmin Connect Mobile app for Windows 10 Mobile, my FR235 no longer appeared as paired in the app (under ≡‑‑Garmin‑Devices) even though it remained registered, and had to be paired anew. Until I did so, the Action Centre in W10M would show that the Forerunner‑235 was connected by Bluetooth to the handset, but the Controls widget on the watch would remain stuck at “Waiting for App” even when the Garmin Connect Mobile app was running in the foreground.
