Calorie and Distance Calculations Inaccurate

Every day that I record activities such as runs with my Fenix 3 HR, Garmin Connect gets calorie and distance values WAY OFF. I'm not sure the reason, but somehow the calories burned from steps get enormously inflated. I've attached images of a good example.

You can see that after my run I had logged a total of 8183 steps. 6822 steps were from my recorded run, leaving 1361 left over for standard "steps" activity tracking. The run equates to 490 calories, 6822 steps, and 4.62 miles; the "steps" to 208 calories, 1361 steps, and 1.43 miles.

This is where something is definitely wrong. 208 extra calories are added on a day where I had literally done nothing except walk downstairs and go on a run. Does it seem correct that 1361 steps could equate to 1.43 miles? A common estimate for steps/mile is around 2500 steps. If we were to believe the numbers I am seeing here, 1 mile = 951 steps (1361 / 1.43 = 951). I don't know about anyone else, but I can't walk a mile in 951 steps.

This is frustrating because these values get passed on the MFP and generally just make the app less usable for activity tracking. Has anyone else noticed this issue? This is my single biggest frustration with Garmin Connect. I just want to get semi accurate calorie tracking.

If I could even turn off calorie tracking for steps, that would be a HUGE improvement.

I am seeing this as well. It's happened before as a bug that was fixed and it could be that the bug is back. I think it's also possible that it might not be a bug and is instead related to the recent change in the formula for resting calories. Here is a thread about that issue: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?349724-Sudden-decrease-in-quot-resting-calories-quot. I wrote this in that thread, but here is why I think it might not be a bug (keep in mind this is just my opinion and I could be completely off base here):

The last few days I've noticed something a little weird with calories. It looks like Connect is showing more active calories than my Fenix 3 is reporting. This has occurred before as a bug that was fixed a few months ago. The bug could be back but it might also be Garmin correcting the calorie calculation by increasing the calorie "value" of activity to make up for the fact that the resting calories are now straight BMR. It would make sense that the change would happen on Connect first since to change the trackers requires firmware updates. This could actually be more accurate than the old formula but it could also just be a bug.

Anything is possible but I would hope that Garmin wouldn't sacrifice the accuracy of one value to compensate for another. That doesn't help anyone. I doubt it would be done intentionally at least.
