Elevation uses topographical data?

I train by running the Cooper River Bridge in Charleston. When I run on it, I can see that my Garmin 230 reports that I'm at 215' at the top. However, when I sync my watch to Garmin connect, the elevation graph shows nothing but me running at sea level. It appears that garmin connect is not using the watch elevation data, but rather the topographical data from the map.

Ideas?

Here's an example of the run:

You can see that i run up the bridge, but no elevation changes.
  • Your watch (Forerunner 230) does not have a barometer to measure altitude so it relies on GPS data (not very accurate) for determining the altitude. When you sync with Garmin Connect, elevation correction is on and Garmin rely on a set of data to determine altitude. Obviously, in your case, not very accurate. I am not sure that there is anything you can do at this point. :-(

It has something. When I'm on top of the bridge I have an altimeter screen that shows 200 feet.

It has something. I can see my altitude as 200 feet when on top of the bridge.
