Edge 25 course won't start on device

Some of the courses I have created won't start on my device. It seems to be the slightly longer, or more complicated courses, but they are only slightly more than some ones which work fine. The symptom is that when I select "Do Course" the screen goes blank and then returns to the Garmin logo. The courses aren't very long. I have ones of 34 miles and 40 miles which fail, but others of 36 miles and less that work. Does anyone know what might be wrong?
