No Longer Possible to Edit Activities in Garmin Connect Online

I used to be able to edit my swimming activities on Garmin Connect, but now you can't edit the number of lengths or distance. This is a problem, because the swim tracking is rarely 100 per cent accurate when it comes to measuring the number of lengths. It usually gets one length out wrong from 50. Why was the ability to correct this removed in the last few weeks?

    Reply from Garmin

I have just received this response from Garmin Support

Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.

    I am happy to help.

The following fields are now displayed as static data points for Lap Swimming activities:

    Distance
    Duration
    Pool Length
    Number of Lengths

If the activity type is changed, those fields become editable again.

I have expressed my displeasure at this 'improvement'

If you change the activity to Swimming it allows editing. Change back to Lap swimming afterwards. However this should not be necessary
  • very annoying!!

Im having the exact same problem, tried tweeting them on numerous occasions and no response!! Its a joke!! How do you change it if you do kick?
  • If the activity type is changed, those fields become editable again.

lmfao. This^, imo sums up Garmin pretty well.

Change the Activity Type from Lap Swimming to Swimming, this should allow you to edit the distance. Change it back after edit if you want. But does give some strange Ave speed and max speed results though.
  • Very dumb behaviour from Garmin, and also a classic example of how not to use forums and social media. They could fix this just by having someone spend an hour or two every day reading these forums, but since they don't we all think they're idiots.

    Missing intervals

Anyone else lost the interval info for lap swimming as well? All I got this morning was Splits - just distance, time etc for each block. I can no longer see what I did lap by lap. Makes stroke info somewhat pointless.
  • You may have to delete and re-upload that activity. I found that issue, and had to delete and re-import. The process to use is:

    Import your activity
    View it in detail
In the top left corner, switch the activity type from Lap Swimming to Swimming
    Click the Edit icon
Change the distance to the correct one
    Save
In the top left corner, switch the activity type from Swimming to Lap Swimming

That appeared to work for me just now.

I've tried using the swim watch tool editor instead of messing about with GC's stupid way of handling the issue, the separate editor is super simple and effective, especially, if, like me your watch has no idea what stroke you actually did.

Much easier to edit your data, delete the old file in GC and import the new, correct one. I think I'll be using this a lot! Kudos to the developer!!

  • This has not been a change for the better

I imagine it's to they can be more like Strava.

Well I deleted my activity but cannot find a way to re-upload it. What did I miss?
