is garmin connect only for watches? I installed garmin express and it shows my gps unit but when i try and use garmin connect it does not show my gps.. keeps saying You have no device on Garmin Connect.

Connect is aimed at fitness devices. You can use Connect with your 62 but imports need to be done manually. For route planning etc you would be better using BaseCamp which is designed to work with Garmin 'On the trail' devices.
