Import activity with trackpoints in Garmin Connect

Hi,

I'm trying to import an activity into Garmin Connect via manual upload.

But the server reports "An error occurred with your upload. Please try again."

The *.tcx is generated by my own program. So to make sure that it's not my fault, I downloaded someone else's activity (from Garmin) and this one cannot be imported either.

It seems the manual upload doesn't like any <Track><Trackpoint> tags inside <Lap>.

Is this a known limitation or bug?

Thanks
Sven

    Solved

Ok, it seems the manual upload service isn't very reliable :(.

And I've got the timestamps formatted in the wrong format - they were missing trailing milliseconds:

    2015-10-17T12:46:40

    instead of

    2015-10-17T12:46:40.000Z

Nice find! It's been a mystery for decades what Garmin accepts and what they don't. Seems they are not working on making it more robust, so your discovery is really helpful. Thx!

And yes, the manual activity upload is the only way to create a course and get it to the web page and on to connected devices. Thx to non-support of decent course creation on mobiles...

May I ask what SW you're working on? Not, by any chance, something for iOS?

No, I'm working on an Android App :P

    For the interested:
    • StartTime has to be a an ISO 8601 formatted date:
      2015-06-15T00:01:00.000Z or
      2015-06-15T00:01:00.000+02:00
(may be in any timezone, but Java developers have to watch for the colon between hour and minutes)
    • a TrackPoint's time has to be ISO 8601 too, but only UTC is allowed:
      2015-06-15T00:01:00.000Z

    Have fun

Sometimes this occurred to me when I exported tracks from my GC to transfer to Strava. Some .tcx files just did not work, but when I exported them from GC as .gpx or as Original (you can select type of file when exporting), these would work with Strava. Maybe if you try extension other than .tcx it might help.
