When I try to change pool length, Connect gives me an error

Today I swam in a pool that I had not used before. My fenix 3 defaulted to 25 yd per lap, but the pool was 30 yd / lap. I couldn't figure out how to change it in the fenix when I was in the pool so I left it like that, to edit it later.

In Connect for the PC I am trying to change the length to 30 yds / lap. When I do this, the application updates my distance but gives me an error saying that the distance is outside allowed parameters. I don't know what this means, and more importantly, what I need to do to get the application to accept the change.

How do I edit the pool length?

I think there's a bug in Garmin Connect which - when editing existing activities - fills the distance field with current value presented in your system's locale (i.e. using decimal separators typical for your locale), however does not accept values with anything other than US-style decimal separators. Just try to remove any dots and/or commas from the distance field (I stress here the DISTANCE field, NOT the POOL SIZE field) or try using different separators in case you wanted to enter fractions. That's what works for me.
  • Yep I've seen this too - took me a while to figure out what it was objecting to - if you remove the dots and commas it should be ok

I always used to enter the pool length and the number of lengths, and the total distance would self-populate (calculating from the other 2). So if there are decimals they are self-populated by Connect. However, when Garmin introduced this bug (I started noticing it about 3 months ago) it happens to me too. As far as I can see there's nothing I can do about it since I don't manually enter the distance field. The only thing that works is if I manually log the activity rather than letting my device upload it (and once I manually enter and save it, I can't make any edits, or else Connect tries to verify the distance and gives me the invalid message).

On my end it looks like Garmin added some sort of value validator, as if someone decided that some distances are just impossible and should be rejected. And whatever number is in there is just nonsensical: my average distance is between 9/10 and 1 mile, which seems very reasonable.
  • No need to manually enter it you can still adjust the pool length etc just a bit more fiddly

Thanks everyone. I typed in "30" in the pool length and Connect converted the distance to "1,920.00". I edited that field to say "1920" and then it worked. Annoying but not the end of the world.

    I appreciate everyone's input.
