Multiple Device (Fenix 3 HR & Vivosmart HR) in one Garmin Connect account

Hi All,

I am thinking to invest in Garmin ecosystem and thinking to get the Fenix 3 HR & Vivosmart HR so that I can wear the band when I am wearing other watches to keep tracking and sleep tracker since it is just a band. Fenix 3 HR will be a daily watch on training days.

I am wondering if the Garmin Connect account will collect data from the devices and count up as one?

Thanks

Not for 24x7 activity (steps, sleep, energy consumption, heart rate, etc.) tracking, as far as I'm aware.
  • If you set your VSHR as the primary tracker for sleep and steps and use the Fenix for recorded activities, it will work fine. Lots of people do that. The VSHR would be worn 24/7 so you would be wearing 2 devices when you use the Fenix.

I have a similar question. I use my Edge 810 for cycling with a chest strap for HR. I have just bought a Fenix 3 HR for use on other activities and daily tracking of HR/steps etc.
Yesterday I went for an 80+ mile bike ride where I used my Edge 810 and took the watch off as it wouldve been uncomfortable under arm warmers.
The ride and all my data is showing in Garmin Connect but the heart rate for the day shows a big gap when I was cycling (even though my HR shows in the activity) It also shows zero intensity minutes.

I would have though it would sync all these together and add the cycling HR into the gap when I was not using the Fenix 3 but it doesnt seem to unless I am missing something? Very annoying to show zero intensity minutes after a bid ride.

Does anyone know if this would mean that I will also lose HR data from my day if I use the chest strap with my Fenix 3 for certain activities or would that include it into my day?
  • Unfortunately, the only way to get a complete day is to wear your VSHR 24/7. The Edge isn't an activity tracker with 24/7 HR monitoring. You would have had the same problem with had you used a Forerunner, Fenix, or even another tracker.

The moral of the story is you can only have one primary tracker at a time. Even if you have 2 devices with tracking capability and switch which one is primary, you could lose the information from the first unless you do it at the very beginning of your day.

If I was to wear a vivosmart hr as the preferred activity tracker what happens if I use my Fenix 3 HR for an activity?
What heart rate data is used for 1) the activity 2) in the background for the heart rate widget etc.
  • It's is an old thread, and since it started, Gramin now has "TrueUp" which allows two devices on the same account, and you can switch fack and forth as you want.

So you could start your day with the va-hr, switch to the f3 for a run, and back to the va-hr, and have both set as your step tracker, with one being the primary.
  • A lot has changed since April. True Up was implemented in November.

For sure the VSHR will now report total steps for the day including those from the Fenix 3 and vice-versa. Of course, that's only after a sync. Connect will combine steps from the 2 devices and update the devices.
