Garmin app categorizes activities wrong

I've been running with my Fenix 2 for about a year now and the whole time my runs are categorized in my connect app as "city im in" other. Every once in a while it will set a run as an actual run and that will show up under the running screen, but it's not very often. I know I can edit each activity but I'd love to know if there's anything I can do about it.

Thank you!
  • Given that, unlike on the Fenix_3, there is apparently no feature to create additional activity profiles on the Fenix_2, I can only assume that you're using your watch's built-in Run activity profile consistently. As far as I'm aware, neither the Garmin Connect Mobile apps nor the back-end Garmin Connect service will re-categorise activities automatically upon syncing, but simply accepts what the end-user device has written into the FIT files being uploaded.

The only thing I can suggest is to try resetting the activity to factory default settings:

    Activity Settings
These settings allow you to customize each activity based on your needs. For example, you can customize data pages and enable alerts and training features. Not all settings are available for all activity types.
    _____⋮
Hold MENU, select Settings > Activity, and select an activity.
    _____⋮
Reset: Restores the factory default settings for the selected activity.

    or resetting your device:

    Resetting Your Device
If the device stops responding, you may need to reset it.
1 Hold LIGHT for at least 25 seconds.
2 Hold LIGHT for one second to turn on the device.

or resetting the device to factory settings:

Resetting the Device to Factory Settings
You can restore all of the device settings to the factory default values.
    1 Hold MENU.
2 Select Settings > System > Reset > All Settings.

in that order, one step at a time, and checking whether a step has resolved the issue before proceeding with the next.

Default activity set to Mountain Biking?

Can you set the default to Mountain Biking instead of just Cycling?
  • Can you set the default to Mountain Biking instead of just Cycling?
Only if you're using a Connect IQ app (instead of one of the factory-installed activity profiles) set up to do that in the data it records, I'd imagine.
