No SMS via Bluetooth between phone and device

This might be the wrong forum. If so, please* advise.

My Garmin* device* is* the Garmin* Drive Luxe 50.
My phone is the Samsung Galaxy* S3 mini.

I can establish* a Bluetooth* connection between* the* two. Once the Bluetooth connection is made, I* can make a receive calls using the Garmin* device.

I am unable* to* receive* text messages or other notifications on the Garmin device however.

As per the following* page my smartphone has the required Bluetooth profile (MAP?) to support this.

And I have followed the instructions for setting up the Smartphone Link app on the phone.

Android is 4.4.2

Smartphone link is 2.1.1

Does anyone have any experience of trouble shooting* this problem?
