Has anyone gotten Garmin Activity Tracker steps to Fitbit?

Title says it all, has anyone found a way to sync steps from Garmin Activity trackers step count for the day from garmin connect to fitbits website. I would like to sync the daily steps from activity tracking with fitbit, and endomondo but search for it seems like there isn't even anyone really trying. I found a few threads with 2-3 responses but nothing that really works. FitDataSync specifically states it wont sync steps from FR 235, Fenix 3 etc since to much "other data" comes with it. So far I have come up short on a solution that works and I may be gearing up to just develop it myself if something doesn't exist.

Thanks in advance for any help.
  • With Garmin (and FB last time I checked), the only steps that are counted are steps from that vendor's devices. You can exchange recorded activities, but not steps. (Both vendors have things like "step challenges" and getting steps from another vendor could mess that up.)
  • Yeah its not for that that reason I want the steps synced . Was aware of the challenges on both sides. I just know Garmin to MFP step syncing works for both Fitbit and Garmin, which means they both have some API to export steps to other service, and they both support importing activities from other services, but they wont sync steps from each other. This means that theoretically I should be able to design some sort of transform sheet that takes steps/calories from Garmin and creates a activity for them and then sends them to fitbit and vise versa. I say theoretically because I haven't looked in to how easy it is to obtain API's for each side.

    I was hoping someone else had already done this but it looks I will have to design the transform from the ground up to do so. I may put up a website JUST for facilitating transferring steps from one service to another in someone way if no one has already done the work.

    Companies really don't realize how much they shoot themselves in the foot when they try and block competitors devices from their services. Services and devices should be agnostic of each other, tho still complimentary. Data is more valuable then sales of devices in LoT world.

    Would be nice if they just made it simple, you choose your favorite tracker and you choose your favorite service and just go.

    I personally dislike Garmin's website etc but use it for certain things.

    My preferred services are:

    History analysis = Endomondo/Garmin
    Sleep = Garmin
    HR = Garmin
    Food Tracking = MFP
    Progress tracking and analysis = Garmin, Strava and Endomondo
    Social interaction = Fitbit hands down
    Motivation = MFP, Fitbit, and Strava (each has its own use)

    My devices are:
    Fitbit one
    Garmin FR410
    Garmin Fenix 3 HR
    Moto 360

    So in my use no one loses out on allowing competitor devices to sync not only do I own a device from each competitor I also utilize all services. At one point I also had premium service with Fitbit, Endomondo, and Strava. I stopped paying for premium for exactly the reason above, competitors trying to block each other. 150$ of repeat revenue lost per year split 3 ways.......that's a new device every year in services they lost from me alone by deciding to not play nice with each other and try to lock me in to their services only.

    Interoperability-by-default may be an ideal from the technical, architectural and/or consumer perspectives, but vendors of consumer technology – as for-profit commercial enterprise – should be rightly concerned with maintaining profitability, and serving owners' and shareholders' interests ahead of any ideal of service to technology users, community or the world at large.

    “LoT world” is meaningless except as fertile ground for business opportunities and revenue potential. How do you propose companies monetise this “valuable” data to which you refer, and get consumers to pay for access to it willingly?

    Its so easy to sell data, activity trackers services have access to whats considered the gold mine of data for targeting users with complimentary devices, products, and services.I mean they know what we eat, when we move, when we are sedative, and much more. For every 1000 visitors to a website advertising can pull in $10+, for targeted marketing with the aggregated data fitness trackers services gather that number is MUCH higher. A thousand quality leads would start more around 50$ and the better then CPA is the more they can demand for that same data. I understand some people will be turned off by that idea, but they have already agreed to allow these companies do that on many occasions anyways.

    Services and Data is were the real money is heck once you have a good ecosystem its literally penny on the dollar operating cost vs revenue........way off topic at this point but wanted to respond to you.

    I know this is an old post, but if you're still wondering....

    I found this and it works pretty well.  Your steps won't be real time, but get uploaded the next morning for the previous day...works well enough for me to be "friends" with my wife and daughter on Fitbit, even though I use a Garmin watch for my steps and activities.
