Running with a Weight Vest

Hey, does anyone know if there is a way of making the Garmin watch track that you wore a weight vest and to incorporate that into it's stats? I had one on today, but can't figure out how. Also is it possible to add it retroactively to the workout I already did?

Thanks!!

    Which stats?

Nothing stops you from creating a piece of gear of the ‘Other’ type, and then assigning it to individual workouts. You can then use the Gear widget or page to effectively create an index into the activities in which the vest was used, but you cannot use it as a filter or selector to generate summary reports for performance metrics.

Alternatively, you can write it into the Notes field for individual activities, so that they are searchable by keyword. Again, you cannot produce summary reports across all activities in which the vest was used.

Well so the reports themselves don't matter too much to me, I haven't used them before. I was thinking more if it could recognize that was a different type of activity so it doesn't change my overall running stats and that too much. Also to recalculate calories burned would be nice.

Overall I'm just looking for it to recognize that I weighed 22 extra pounds for that run

But it is the same type of activity – Running – unless you want to record (or re-classify) it as Other. Even if you're talking about type of event, it's still Training whether you're wearing the vest, and doing normal Intervals or custom workouts without it. You can add the Gear, and/or you can write something into the Notes field of an activity, but that's really only to aid your recollection. It won't affect any calculations or derived values.

That's not going to happen. Energy consumed for a tracked workout activity is determined by the watch; Garmin Connect just receives and displays the recorded estimate. You can overwrite the recorded value manually, but you cannot get GC to perform energy consumption calculations for a concluded activity by giving it (or changing) certain parameters or adding gear after the fact.

If you think the weight makes a difference to how the watch estimates your energy consumption (and it probably does), then I think you need to go into Menu»My Stats»User Profile»Weight on the watch (if it's a FR230/235) to change your weight before starting your Run, and after you have completed and saved your activity, change your weight back to normal.

You didn't ask this and it's off topic, but I'd discourage wearing a weight vest for running. I think it's very likely to be throwing off your stride and that you're asking for an injury by doing it.
