Active calories way off

Former Member
Former Member
Anyone else having this issue?

For example:

Today I have done 13.5k steps its only 12:36 here but Garmin is showing 1700
active calories... It's way too much and my day have only started .This will
sync too MFP and award me with way too much exercise adjustment
calories...
This started happening after server maintenance.

    What device and software version?
  • Yeah that happens to me 1-2 times a week. Sometimes they are insanely high, sometimes frustratingly low.

Yesterday my active calories for daily walking dropped after a 7 mile run.

I'm not sure if this is on Garmin's list or not.

FR235 latest software I think , I check for updates when I need to charge my device
about once a week . 16.5k steps now and almost 2k active calories... and it's only 14:00 here.

Same thing seem to have been going on here . (I only had my FR235 for two weeks so I didn't notice before) For 2 days active calories have been insanely high and now back to normal , maybe little low .
Worst day was April 5th . I had 4.400 active calories 6800 total ( 25km 29k+ steps ) even half of 4.4k active calories would maybe be too much , not sure but maybe it got doubled some how .
Anyway it seem to work better again . I hope it get fixed with updates.

In another thread someone disabled hr monitoring and it helped. Before you do that do you have your resting hr and hr zones setup in connect and on watch?

No I have not setup hr zones yet . This was basic activity tracking , 2/3 of steps done at work and 1/3 at the mall after work . I have only had the device for 2 weeks and I have not been out running with it yet .
It seem to have worked fine first week . I do check hr now and then and it's between (90-120) when walking faster (almost never shows correct value at first glance , usually it starts on 72 and slowly changes to actuall reading) . On slow days at work I try to walk more rather than taking bike for ex . That's why so many steps on 5th April .
Maybe I spoke too soon earlier . Today I did 23k steps (walking) and it's showing 3k active calories . Day is not over yet (17:47) it looks like it's showing twice as much as it should . Turning HR monitoring off sounds
dull . I guess I could try but it was one off reasons I bought the watch . I guess I can setup hr zones too not sure if that will effect normal activity tracking.
I did turn off , restart and charge device yesterday but it still seem to be showing too much active calories.

I have this too on a fenix3. Turning off HR works.

I changed my HR zones to slightly different and it didnt have any affect. I picked up 300 on my drive home 😵
