Steps data for 2 days ago is wrong

I've just synced my vivoactive after being away for the weekend. I know I did over 12000 steps on 2nd April but the app is only showing 6000. Am a bit gutted as I've had long run of meeting my 10000 steps target.

Is there anyway of recovering these lost steps?
  • I'm having the same problem as well. It's tied to the server outage. The last time the servers where down for an extended period I had this same situation then. It was corrected after a couple of days. Hopefully the same will happen this time.

The craziest thing is the same thing happened to me on April 2nd, but... it also showed 260ish steps on my watch itself for a 10 mile run. It would be super strange if they'd written it where Garmin Connect itself actually had the capability of reducing the steps when it synced on Saturday.. but I can't think of any other explanation. Unfortunately, I didn't check the steps until I'd synced the watch. I've had the watch for three weeks now and that's the only time I saw this behavior; I was thinking it was defective and I might have to return it.

While I'm very happy to believe that's not the case (despite Garmin's goofiness yesterday and losing 12k+ steps, I love the watch), I won't trust it for a long time. I'm ok eating the 12k steps; after all, that's nothing in the span of a month or two. It just sucks that using Fitbits for the last two years, I've never had this happen until this Garmin. Hopefully whatever the heck happened is now resolved, and I don't lose 10 miles' worth of steps again!

I am used to the data loss now

This stuff just happens. It has been happening more frequently though. As I stated on a couple of other threads about the bizzare things I have encountered with data loss (an yes, data changed), as long as it works 95% of the time, I am good.

I have my daily running is sync in other places other than Garmin, and the MFP thing, well that actually has more hiccups than desired, but I can manually fix these hiccups with entries applied directly to MFP..

Because I am in IT, and I work in the medical field (hospital IT), my IT experiences deal with patient care mission critical issues, this is not so much. Is it a hassel? Oh yeah it is, but I am happy with 95% these days with the frequency of Garmin's system issues.

My only complaint, is Garmin needs to communicate these things and provide updates to the end user...(no facebook, twitter, webpage updates during this time). This type of communication will keep customers happy and moreover, calm and provide Garmin with customers that will understand during times of crisis.

I will have to open support tickets for my issues, but it is common now.

Agreed. That is really the crime; system downtime happens to everybody, there is nobody who is exempt from it. They were getting hammered on Facebook, Twitter, and these forums yesterday, and *nobody* was around to provide a status update? From a company who grossed 2.8 BILLION dollars last year? It's absurd.
  • It may not be anywhere near as critical as medical monitoring, but there is no real excuse for data loss and lack of any data recovery.

The sync is pretty ordinary with frequent restarts of the phone needed each week...

I lost 10+kms of data the other day (daylight saving changeover) and it was a total PITA when trying to set new personal records, goals and milestones.

The "replace" mode for data is a little flawed and an oversimplification of how it *could* be done.

One thing I am still puzzled about is the separate strap on heart rate monitor - how useless is that ? The data only manifests in the one place and no real use.

I am quite disappointed with how The Company regards its customers with some pretty basic functionality.

    Same issue here.

For 4/2: watch says 16k, Connect says 2k
Additionally no sleep data on night from 4/2 to 4/3.
  • I just checked my step data for April 2 / April 3 and it has been corrected. Hope you guys have the same luck.
  • Well, considering my previous rant.... I have to admit it did ultimately come back with corrected results.
