Shoes that were already used before using GC ?

Hello !

New owner of a Garmin 230 and exploring the possibilities of Garmin Connect, I was wondering if it was possible to edit the shoes parameters to modify the kilometres that have been covered BEFORE they were registered in GC.

For example, my Nimbus 16 already have 200 km. Is it possible to register these 200 km so that GC doesn't consider them as new ?

Thank you.
Jay
  • I don't think you can but you could change the max miles for that specific pair... Let's say it has 200 miles already and you would want to retire them around 450 miles you could have the max miles for that pair to be just 250 miles.

Yeah, that's what I did. I tell you the shoe tracker is a real handy feature. Not because of what it does, but because it provides justification when I tell my wife I'm buying more shoes (even though I bought a pair "just a few weeks ago".)

I just wish the software would popup a message asking what gear you used after you sync (if you want it to) I often forget and have to try and remember what shoes I wore days after a run.
  • Hello !

Thanks for your answers, that's what I was thinking about doing. Shame they did not provide the possibility to just register the milage of each pair. I guess I'll carry on keeping track of this with my old trusty Excel file ;o)

PS : ran my first outing this morning with brand new FR 230.......this watch just kicks a*s. After owning a Tomtom Spark for a few weeks, I can say that the Garmin plays in another league, no question about that. Now I have this Tomtom that I am trying to sell again :(

    Cheers

  • Sure, why not?

    Yes.

Key concept: Date of registration ≠ Date of First Use

For example, my Nimbus 16 already have 200 km. Is it possible to register these 200 km so that GC doesn't consider them as new ?
    Sure.

    • Create an entry for your pair of old Nimbus 16 with ‘Add Gear’, and enter a historical date – for example 25/12/2015 – in its First Use field so that you don't consider them as new.
    • Manually create an activity (perhaps of type Other, and give it the name of ‘Dummy activity to add mileage to Nimbus 16’) for 26/12/2015, with 200km, 0:00:00 duration and 0 calories.
    • Assign the Nimbus 16's entry to the list of gear used for that activity.
  • Hi !

Thanks for the answer, this is what I did in the meantime :)

By the way, seems you are on all sportswatch forums ;)

I'm not on Suunto's yet. :p After ditching the TomTom Spark Cardio+Music, I was seriously considering a Suunto Ambit3 Run as a replacement, but in the end chose the Garmin Forerunner 235 when I compared them head to head and tried both on in the store. So far I'm generally very happy with the FR235. The two things that disappoint me most about it is:

    • The Garmin Connect Mobile app for iOS is designed for the iPhone only, and while I love my iPads, I won't use an iPhone if I have a choice in the matter at all. GCM on the iPad sucks – the app doesn't respect the orientation of the device display (except for certain pages of details when reviewing individual workouts), and doesn't take advantage of the available screen real estate. For all the criticism and hate directed at TomTom MySports, it works far more nicely than GCM in that regard. I also really miss being able to tap on a lap/split and see that section of the route highlighted on the map, then hover over a point on the route and see the instantaneous info for it gathered together in a call-out. Even in Garmin Connect online, when I do so on the map, I need to then scroll down to pick up info from different metrics from the charts individually.

    • In the Asia market, the FR235 retail package comes with two sets of watch bands (in reversed colours matching that of the watch unit) and a tool kit for changing the bands. We don't get that in Australia, and as far as I'm aware, not in UK, Canada or the USA either.
