Windows XP analogy

Maybe there's an analogy that would fit the recent changes a bit closer.
Microsoft didn't disable or remove every installation of Windows XP when they made Vista, 7, 8 or 10. It still runs many embedded systems such as ATMs to this day. You can even pay to receive patches for up to date security vulnerabilities.

If Microsoft installed windows 10 on a separate partition dual booted on everyone's machine who had Windows XP, then deleted the Windows XP partition on everyones computers after two years, and all our ATMs were running Windows 10, the analogy of what happened to GC and XP would be apt.
