Missed the "Health & Fitness" when setting up - how do I fix this?

My father, my wife, and I are all setting up Garmin Connect accounts so we are ready to go when we get out fitness trackers. My wife and I set ours up first, and there is a page that appears which gives you the option of selecting "Sport", "Health & Fitness", and "Golf". I think my wife and I both selected only "Sport", but my father selected both "Sport" and "Health & Fitness", and needless to say, his snapshots show a lot of information that we do not have (but need).

I am pretty sure that once we connect our devices to the account, these options will appear. However, is there any way to fix this so that they show on our accounts before that?

Thank you in advance.
  • That's easy

Are you talking about dashboards on Garmin Connect online? If so, you can just create new a dashboard, name it whatever you want, then select widgets from the ‘hamburger’ drop-down menu and click on ‘Add to Dashboard’ to populate the new dashboard as you wish.

Yes, I am talking about Garmin Connect online. But it also does not show in mobile.

No, it isn't as simple as adding a widget. No option exists for these widgets.

If you miss the first popup when you are setting up your account and you only check "sports" and do not check "Health & Fitness" or "Golf" you end up missing the widgets associated with these activities.

I've included 3 screenshots. Note: None of us actually have Garmin devices connected to our accounts at this time. None of our settings differ from one another. The ONLY thing we did different is on the page that gave 3 options when we first signed up.

    This is my dashboard...

This is my GCM page showing my choices for Snapshots

This is my fathers GCM page showing HIS choices for Snapshots.

There was another post on this very same topic from a while ago, but that post went unanswered.

    https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?151938-Changing-account-from-a-health-fitness-account-to-a-Sports-account-with-Garmin-Connect

I didn't post in that one... it is a gamble on any forum. Either people get mad when you dredge up old posts, or they get mad when you post new questions that have already been asked (even if there was no answer.)

OK, fine. But you don't want to connect your activity tracker to your Garmin Connect account, even though you expressed a belief that after you connect the device, the options will appear for you to set up your dashboard with the information you ‘need’.

    I'm afraid I just don't ‘get’ you.

Wow, no need to get nasty.

I currently have a Fitbit Charge HR. I am waiting for the Vivoactive HR to come out, so at the moment I don't have a device to connect. I just want to be able to get everything set up and have everything figured out so I can hit the ground running when they finally release it.

My wife is getting the Vivosmart HR, but it won't be here until tomorrow. Same with my father.
  • It's been a while for me (I started with a VVF a couple years back, moved to a FR15, and have had a VVA for a year) but IIRC, when you add the device to your account, that process changes/adds to the dashboard for you, based on the device. For example, when I got the VVA, I got a new tab on my GC dashboard for "golf". Since I don't golf, I deleted that whole tab, and now have "Health and Fitness" and "Sports", but I've moved things around so that things on "Health and Fitness" are the things I often use, and the stuff I moved to "sports" are used less, like reports that show 12 months, etc.

With GCM (on your phone), you may also get different things based on the device you have paired to your account (I've only used the current GCM with the VVA so I'm not sure)

I guess what I'm saying is without a device paired to the account, you can get a feel for how things work, but to see how they actually work, you may have to wait for the device.

Yeah, no doubt about it. And I am really excited to see it in action. It just seems really odd that with 3 accounts, none of which have a device on them, one has more widgets available than the others and there seems to be no way to correct it prior to adding the device.

I can play with certain things by importing GPX or FIT files from my Oregon 600 manually, but I am still limited, since there is no step counter or anything.

I thought about adding her device to my account to get them to show up, then removing it and putting it on my wife's account where it belongs. That would get the Widgets to show up. Does Garmin allow you to activate and remove devices from an account relatively easily like that, or would I be better off just waiting (as patiently as I am capable of) until I get mine in May?
  • Getting nasty how?

Wow, no need to get nasty.
If I acknowledged I don't understand you, then it's my limitation, and if your value set isn't compatible with mine, which prevents me from ‘getting’ you, then I can't help you in the face of the technical obstacle you've proven with your screenshots. How is that getting nasty?

I just want to be able to get everything set up and have everything figured out so I can hit the ground running when they finally release it.
It's your call whether to spend the first day playing with the device you just received, reading the instruction manual, charging it up, setting up your account and preferences, etc. If you want to run it like a business-critical and time-critical IT project, so be it, but I can't help you. Again, my limitation.
