Active calories are wrong - bug in Garmin Connect

I'm still having this issue and I posted in another forum as well. Link to the thread is here.

I also opened a support ticket. I don't get why the active calories show up sometimes as less than your timed activities. I checked and it did on more than just the one day I mentioned in the thread above. It does it on many days since I got my new watch. I will do 500 or 600 or 900 calories (or whatever it is in timed activities) but then it may show only 270 or 325 "active" calories on Garmin Connect?? But on the phone, website, and device if you look at the activities it still shows the correct total of all the calories. It's just the "active" calorie that is off. How can active calories be less than the timed activities? Active calories should be a combination of all your basic activity (basic steps that your tracker logs and calculates some calorie expenditure for) plus all timed activities/workouts. It should at least be that much.

How is it coming up less for active calories? Again, shouldn't it be at least the total of all the calories from all the timed workouts that day? This is weird. And seems like a bug. Any thoughts?

It may not be related but I have a similar bug in GC with some calories shown in active calories but not appearing in total calories... see here forums.garmin.com/showthread.php

I also don't know if this is related to your issue either but I'm beginning to think many of the issues with calories occur because of doing activities that crossover midnight boundary. For example, starting a time physical activity at 11:50pm and doing it for 1hr. When you do this your reports seem to be more screwed up. Because you will have some days showing that that activity was done for 1hr and burned X number of calories. BUT the reality is Garmin only gave you a small portion (10min worth that happened before midnight) of the total calories for that activity toward that day. The overwhelming majority of calories in this case go to the next day where 50min of the activity occurred after midnight. However it gets very confusing b/c Garmin will still show that activity as being done on the prior day when you look at your activity reports and it will even say you did (hypothetically) 900cal for that 1hr activity. But really it gave 100cal for 10min that occurred before midnight and gave 800cal or so for the 50min that occurred "in the next day" after midnight. It really seems to get bizarre when you do lots of activities that cross midnight boundaries. There just isn't a rhyme or reason for how it calculates them or shows them to you so it gets very weird. I have tried to steer away from doing anything that crosses midnight for this reason.
