Down Segments Matching of new activities is currently turned off

I am new to Garmin just bought Forerunner 235 the week before. There is a constant problem on the Garmin Connect web. It showed a blank page after login and the status page showed "Down Segments Matching of new activities is currently turned off". I wonder if this is the problem of Garmin or my computer. Did anyone experience it before, and how to fix it. Thanks.

    Hi:

    Garmin turned off this feature several months ago with no explanation. The company has not responded to numerous queries and consumer complaints. The overall consensus among Garmin users is that the company has no plans to put this feature on line but rather they hope people migrate to Strava. Their service and lack of communication on this matter is really appalling. Some of use are VERY disappointed.

    If segments is dead, then say so. Don't leave your users hanging for months only to post an ambiguous message about segment matching being temporarily off.

    So now, in order to use a feature similar to one that was once part of Garmin Connect, we now have to buy a new, compatible device and subscribe to a paid service. Does that sound right?

    i too am cross about segments being turned off..i could be off in my guessing but i get the impression it's connected to Strava being up and running..a deal made between Garmin and Strava...i thought at the least, were this the case, this would represent mis-selling as the segments feature is part of the garmin service and it would characterise a conflict of interest.

    I don't know if this is related, but on Saturday, 7/30/16, the segment leaderboard on both web-based and iPhone-based Garmin Connect were working correctly. On Sunday, 7/31/16, segments were no longer working on either platform.

    The Garmin Connect "Status" page, <connect.garmin.com/en-US/status>, says of the segment feature: "Due to high volume we are experiencing intermittent availability." It doesn't seem to be intermittent due to high volume, however, but seems to be completely broken right now.
