Problem with Split Times

Hi All,

Brand new here, did a search but couldn't find a fix to my problem - would really appreciate any advice.

I have a new Vivosmart HR, set to Metric in every place I can find - on the device in Settings / Units, on my mobile garmin connect, and on web page garmin connect in Setting / Display Preferences and Device Settings / Device Display Preferences.

My problem is when I go for a run it measures my splits instead of 1KM, in 1.61KM (which is 1 Mile obviously). All other measures on all pages are in KMs, but for some reason it is 'auto lapping' at 1 mile, then converting.

The Vivosmart HR, only seems to have a 'Auto Lap" On or Off, not choice of KM or Mile, so I guess it just reads it from the other choices ? But why isnt it doing it in plain 1 KM.

I spoke and emailed Garmin support, and they suggested I reset to factory, re-instal / reload new data etc which I have tried but it didnt fix the problem OR they said they will replace my 3 day old item for a new one......which I dont really want to do unless I have to, it must be something in one setting or another right ??? I know I could do manual laps myself, but have enough problems running at pace etc hah so far.

Please help / suggest any options ?
  • My Forerunner 35 is doing the same. Settings set to metric and lap set to 1km but splits are being recorded every 1.61km! The same splits get synced to the Connect app unfortunately.

Strangely it worked perfectly for 11months, this only started happening 3 weeks ago.

I haven't found a way to fix this on the watch but  I now upload the data to Strava. Strava ignores the 1.61km split times and works out the correct 1km split times. I know this doesn't solve the problem during a run (unless I carry my phone with me during my run but I don't want to do that) but at least I can analyse afterwards.
