VO2 max calculating, not updating in GC

Hi all,

My VO2 max calculates after various cycling activities (this is good—it's the power meter stuff on the F3), but I hit a new VO2 max today and went to look in GC and see that my cycling VO2 max has not updated since December. The running VO2 max data makes it across after every run, but not so with cycling.

Ideas?
  • Cycling vo2 max not recording in GC

I'm having the same problem. No vo2 data in garmin connect for cycling since October.

    Anyone?

Its a known issue. Mods have stated that Garmin is working on the problem, but it sure seems to be taking a long time to fix.

I've been watching these threads for a while and it's the same response for months with no update.
Garmin... Fallen through the cracks much?
For what I've spent on your Vector 2 pedals and your Edge 520 before you realised how excessive it was and smashed the price down, you would think that you would at least give us product that works and not use the purchasing customer base as running beta testers for unfinished, overpriced product.
  • 4 years later and it does't seem to be resolved.  My Edge 1000 used to always calc VO2 Max indoors and out.  Its maybe nothing to do with it but now its only transferring outdoor VO2 Max data to GC :-/

It does not look too bad if nobody complained 4 years long here Slight smile

I am not familiar with your device, but generally, according to the Support document What is the VO2 Max. Estimate Feature on My Garmin Device?, the VO₂Max is calculated either when the GPS track is available (outdoor activities), or when power meter is connected. Is it possible that you had a power meter connected to Edge at your previous indoor rides, and now you do not have one?

  • I've read that several times before consulting and searching the forum. Basically there's no change at my end. I had a power meter before when it was working before Christmas and the same power meter now. I was doing the same 20+min 70% hr sessions before Christmas and the same if not longer, more intense sessions now, this morning's session had an average of 77% max hr for 1h 30m.

There's numerous threads over the last 5 years including one this year reporting similar problems and no solution has been reported :-/

There certainly is a solution if you tell it previously worked. Did you already speak to the Support?

  • Also please provide a link to one of your indoor activities - I can look at the JSON data and check whether the powermeter connection is visible. Or even better - provide a link to an older indoor activity where it worked, and another one to a recent activity where the VO₂Max value was not saved to GC, so that I can compare them. Do not forget to set the activities visible to Everyone, before posting the link.

  • Yip I  reported it to support I'm still awaiting an answer.

This is my morning's ride https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/5269455972?share_unique_id=6 which never recorded VO2max.

This is an older activity when it did https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/4210431778?share_unique_id=8

It looks like you are using a different HRM chest belt now, than at the old activity. I see CARDIOSPORT at the new activity, and FITCARE at the older one. Are you sure the new HRM belt supports the HRV feature (Heart Rate Variability)? It is necessary for the VO₂Max measurements, and not all HRMs support that feature.Though if the CARDIOSPORT HRM works at oudoor rides, it should be all right. Could you try doing a test ride with the original HRM, anyway?

And also the powemeter is different, as far as I see (BIKE_POWER vs. FAVERO_ELECTRONICS) - testing it again with the older one, would be another thing I would try, too, to better localize the culprit.
