Please Help with exporting a Course to my Nuvi 2559 from Garmin Connect.

I am pretty new and unsophisticated in using a GPS other than the absolute basic functions. I have tried the manuals and gotten no where on this question. I would appreciate any help you can offer.

Someone I know has given me a link to his multi-day bicycle trip course. I would like to export it from his Garmin Connect page to my nuvi 2559.

Before i installed Garmin Express when I went to his course link on Garmin Connect, there was a little gear-wheel in the right hand corner that allowed me to export the course

to a device
as a GPX file
as a T?? file
to Google Earth
to ????
as splits

Now that I have installed Garmin Express that little gear-wheel has disappeared and there appears to be no way to export the data.
The manual only tells how to upload a route or course to Garmin Connect.

The Garmin Express allows me to load additional vehicle images but no files from a specific website that are discussed in that manual

The Nuvi 2559 manual doesn't appear to have any information on loading files remotely.

So how do I load the Garmin Connect course onto my Nuvi 2559?

Thank you so much.
  • What you need is for him to export the course as a gpx file, which you can then copy into the GPX folder on your nuvi. See here for what to do next

Thank you but it didn't quite work

OK, I exported as GPX files and then copied to the Nuvi GPX folder. There were about 8 such GPX files. Then I followed the instructions in the link you provided:

o access a transferred route, follow the instructions below:

    Touch Apps or Tools
Garmin Drive series, Garmin DriveAssist, Garmin DriveLuxe and Garmin DriveSmart series devices can also access the Trip Planner by touching Where To?, then Trip Planner
    Touch Trip Planner
Allow time for the device to automatically import the trip/route

The import will automatically begin, but no message will appear on the device indicating that the import is happening and may take several minutes to import the trips. Once the import is complete, all transferred routes will be displayed under a category called Unscheduled or Imported Trips in the Trip Planner.1 Until the trip(s) show up in Trip Planner, do not turn off the device or connect it to a computer.

But nothing happened. There was nothing that came up in the Unscheduled group of Trip Planner and no courses at all>

So what would you suggest as the next step?

    Thanks again.
  • May not be a 'nuvi compatible' gpx file. Try loading the file into BaseCamp. If the file works in BaseCamp use BaseCamp to send it to your nuvi, since BaseCamp is designed to work with nuvis whereas Connect really isn't.

    What is Base Camp?

What is Base Camp? Can you provide a link? Thanks
  • Try googling Garmin Basecamp :)
