Garmin course creator & Edge navigation woes

Is there any way at all it's possible to stop GC course creator incorporating routes which are completely unsuitable for and unpassable on a road bike? It seems for nearly every course I create at some point (usually when I'm miles from home and in unfamiliar territory) I'm suddenly directed down a canal towpath or up a muddy bridleway which wouldn't be passable even on a MTB most of the time. Furthermore, the Edge (whichever model I use) then either stubbornly refuses to recalculate the route - leaving me to try to work out for myself how to get back on the course - or it recalculates the entire rest of the route in the most bizarre way, ignoring the preprogrammed course completely, meaning I have to stop using the turn-by-turn navigation prompts and try to get round by following the line on the map. It's so frustrating! Thanks.
  • I'm having this problem using the round route calculator and it's getting in my nerves. One time on a route it took me through Epping Forest where there was no "trail" to follow just woods. I had to walk through the forest in my cleats (Speedplay !!!) and just had to walk in the general direction of the route just to get back on course. Could have been quite scary.

Then the other day it took me down a rough footpath where the path was paved with paving slabs. It was tree covered and already starting to get dark so I looked down to adjust my front light my front wheel caught where the paving slabs were too wide and my front wheel got caught between two slabs forcing me into a stop. Being clipped in I fell over on the derailleur side and bent the hanger. I was miles from home and could only use a few of the gears home.

Im on a road bike and I'd really like to stay on the roads thank you very much Garmin.

Another gripe is cycle paths. I do not want to ride on a cycle path on a fast road bike. It's dangerous both for me and others mostly pedestrians. I don't want to go through public parks either.

ive set my avoidances so they re all checked. I've also set my ride type as road but routing seems to pay no attention to this. Busy major roads like dual carriage ways are too dangerous and they mostly avoid them but it seems the only way to not ride trails or paths, canals or parks is to set it to driving but this puts me on major roads I'd rather avoid roads more than a path by the river.

i really don't wan to ride cycleway or trail lime I said I. On a road bike I want to stick to non major roads you know with tarmac.

i thought a solution might be to delete a map that has this info

but I wouldn't know how to do that.

    any help? P,ease? Anyone!

    thanks
