Bulk .fit download?

How do I download all my activities in their original format? It would be unrealistic to do each one individually.
  • While somewhat involved, I run a batch file with the garmin-connect-export tool every so often...

    https://github.com/kjkjava/garmin-connect-export

I run it with the following arguments: gcexport.py 500 original gcBackup

the 500 says to get the last 500 activities, original asks for FIT (or TCX if that was ultimately the original) and gcBackup is my folder to store the downloads.

I think it prompts for login and password when it runs in order to login to your account and download activities.
  • I was hoping Garmin had an option, but why would they add something that was helpful for their users. Looks in depth, I'm guessing it's not a copy and paste python script with a few edits to have it do what you want?
  • Another option is to use Tapiriik and have them sent to a Dropbox account.

In fairness to Garmin, their business is their products. If you choose to use a different method to analyse their data why should you think they have to help you do that? Besides, I believe that most newer devices are bulk storage so you can pull the files off the device. Ones that aren't I think save the files to a location on the computer. In most cases the files are accessible without having to go to Garmin Connect.

I already use Tapiriik but they don't support .fit files, I wish they did. I know I can dig up some of the files and download the rest individually but it's years of data across multiple devices. Thanks

Garmin's business should be their devices. It took Garmin years to finally integrate with Strava after we all begged. I bet they sold more products because of it and now they even advertise the integration, after they tried their failed attempt of outdoing Strava lmao. Don't even get me started on their $5,000 api. Golden Cheetah is light years ahead of Garmin and it's open source. Garmin should wake up and give a complementary api license to Golden Cheetah and thank them for all the customers they bring to Garmin. People ask me what device they should get, I tell them a Garmin, it's the best device and all the issues are included free, they even have a web page to let you know everything is not working. I really do want to be a Garmin fan but they make it so hard to be.
