Missing functionality in Modern View

I've tried modern view but always have to go back to classix. The main reason I don't use modern and stick with classic view of Garmin Connect is the missing Player mode. In Classic, you can advance/rewind click-by-click and see both pace/time and distance information for a run. Modern view appears to not have that ability. The map position follows the mouse when you move it and it will only let you see time or distance - when both is what is actually useful so you can view splits within laps.

Am I missing a trick on how to use modern or is modern just missing that ability? Seems like a really basic thing to have missed.
  • You're missing a trick. On the map I see a 'play' triangle. When I click on it I see a pointer move along the track. I can then move the pointer backwards and forwards along the track. A black line on the graphs below indicate information at specific points.
  • I see that trick, but as soon as move the mouse it "reclaims" the pointer and it leaves the play. You have to toggle between time and distance and can't see both like you can in classic. So if you want to know what the cumulative time was at, say, 4.20km you can't - when you move the mouse to toggle from distance to time (or time to distance), the pointer on the map follows the mouse. Unless it's a Google Chrome issue and I need to try another browser, the only way I can get that info is to switch to classic.
  • Try moving the mouse along one of the graphs instead. That moves the pointer on the map and the info is whatever you want it to be. Safari on Mac.
  • I've tried IE and Google Chrome but I don't have Safari (yet). And this is what happens:

When you have the graphs set to "Over Distance" how do you see what your cumulative time is for any point? It shows you distance. If you then say you want to know what your cumulative time is for that distance point, you move the mouse to toggle to "Over Time" and you lose the point for which you want to know the time. Is that not what happens for you?

The modern view only shows one or the other. Classic shows you both.
  • I don't lose the point. The bar stays on the graph.

Can't see the problem with that personally. Yes it's different, but so what? Life moves on. It's a minor change. It's not a loss of functionality. It's a different way of seeing the data.
  • I need to get Safari then. In IE and GC, it resets.

Or download to analyse splits in a different program. That's the issue. Life moves on fine but if you can't analyse splits, what is the point of having the exercise file at all? The whole purpose is to be able to see what your times were at different distance points.
  • Now you've gone down a different track. If you record your splits, GC will allow you to analyse them. In that respect GC is better than Strava. In GC you get to see the splits; in Strava you only get to see km splits.

But that's a lot different to seeing specific points along the track.
  • I haven't intentionally changed, so I guess I didn't explain it well initially; it is the crux of my starting point. In Classic you can see both time and distance for a point. In Modern, you get time or you get distance and you can't have both. It's like Modern is written by a quantum mechanic to conform to the uncertainty principle!

    Splits on Strava

Actually this is incorrect. In strava you can see any split in bar form, including those that in Garmin you can only see by text, i..e intervals . All you have to do is to go in 'Splits' rather than in the activity screen

My bad. I'd forgotten about this despite having checked out my 5x800r400 last week. On my Strava it's Laps to see those lap splits.
