Activity names are always untitled

Hi Everyone,

All my activities are showing up as Untitled, despite having display settings set to Activity Names = Location and Type
Is there a known issue about this?
I'm using the Forerunner 620 and running Garmin Express on Mac.

Thanks
  • What types of activities are these can you post a link or screenshot of one?

I have the same problem with my pool swimming activities. Bicycle activities are ok, though. Maybe it's because the pool swimming activity doesn't use GPS, so it doesn't have a location to put into the name.
  • Even though location is not known because the activity don't use gps, as for swimming and probably indoor activities, it should be possible to get the activity type instead of "untitled" as default title.
I prefer renaming all my activities with custom titles that has better meaning, so this is not really an issue for me.

Agreed, that would be much better of course. I was simply trying to guess the reason why it works for some activity types and not others, but of course only Garmin know for sure.

    example of untitled activity

Here is an example of an untitled activity:
    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1049843363

I have the activity names configured to automatic naming but everything is still showing up as untitled.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Can someone from Garmin confirm this is a bug?

    Thanks!
  • In response to user demand Garmin included an option for this a while back. Go to Settings, Display Preference and adjust 'Activity names'.

If as you say you have them already set correctly try changing them to something else, log out then back in again and change it back. See if that then makes the setting 'stick'. Note the comment underneath the box:

New activities can be untitled, or named automatically with location and type (if available). Names based on location may not be accurate for all areas
  • So if location is not known, then activity type is not known either? :)

My activities used to show up titled automatically when I went for a run, until sometime in January. Now they just show untitled, I haven't changed any settings. I have forerunner 15.

Yea, I dont get this either. I would be nice to associate activity types on the watch with what GC assigns. Right now user defined activities on the watch show up as a ? unassigned. I could care less about the title, but it would be nice if the type was assigned.

This thread is about the names of the activities, and is what I replied to. There is a GC setting that allows automatic names based on location and activity type, as opposed to 'untitled' activity name. As it is this setting is disregarded by GC if the location is not known, and then assigned 'untitled' anyway. That could be improved by setting default activity name to just the name of the activity type when location is not known.
