Forerunner 10 and vivosmart hr

I notice that when I sync my forerunner 10 and vivosmart hr in connect that it shows two activities. From my understanding the forerunner should record the pace, distance, and calories while the vivosmart hr will import additional metrics such as heart rate and this will show as one activity. Is this not the case? I did start the activity on both devices.

I think you're out of luck. The FR10 doesn't do HR. If it did, instead of starting activities on each, I believe you have to set up the VSHR to broadcast and pair it with your other device.. Then start the activity only on that device. In essence the VSHR replaces a chest strap for those devices that are ANT+ HR strap compatible. See: http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/vivosmarthr/EN-US/GUID-AC0E8CD6-FD71-4845-ADB1-2E97F785EFAC.html. As it is, I think you're stuck doing what you're doing. AFAIK Garmin Connect has no capacity to combine input from 2 different devices as you are attempting.

    Hello Dan,

I do understand that the fr10 does not attach to a heart rate monitor. I can see my heart rate and my running activity in connect but not combined. This seems like something that can be accomplished in programming since connect has both sets of data. My biggest concern is that it is doubling up mileage and according to this it shouldn't:

If this is what you're looking at ("Let’s say you wear your vívofit and your Forerunner 220 during a run. The vívofit records your steps and the Forerunner keeps track of time, pace, distance, etc. When you sync both devices, Garmin Connect accepts the distance and calorie data from your Forerunner, not the vívofit during your timed activity. However, because the Forerunner 220 doesn’t track steps, the step total information comes from the vívofit. You don’t have to worry about distance and calories being doubled up.

In fact, the distance and calorie data for any activity in Garmin Connect (even a manually created activity), will override the distance and calorie data from any Garmin step tracker."), the way I read that is that in the example an activity is only started on the 220. Still not sure how GC would know not to add the distance and calories inherent in the vivofit step counting. I agree what you want to do is something that could be accomplished by programming. Unfortunately, there a lot of features people would like that could be accomplished by programming which Garmin has not implemented.

That is exactly what I am looking for. However, this not what I am seeing. I see distance doubled up on both of my devices. The catch is that I do start a running activity from both my forerunner and vivosmart hr. Maybe this is what created this issue? The reason I start the running activity from my vivosmart hr is so that I can see my heart rate in more detail. Oh well, maybe garmin wants me to purchase the new fr 235. Marketing at work!
