Cycling - 920XT Distance is not Accurate

I have noticed that the cycling distance measurement on my 920XT is inconsistent/wrong. For example, I did an "out and back" ride recently where I know the turn-around point is approximately 30 miles. The 920XT indicated that I was only at 25 miles at the turn-around point. When I finished the ride, the 920XT recorded my total distance for the ride as only 37 miles. So, this is off in 2 ways. First, the total distance (as measured by other devices and sites like MapMyRide) should have been closer to 60 miles. Secondly, the "Out" distance recorded by the 920XT was 25 miles while riding the exact same course back only measured 12 miles!

I use the speed/cadence sensor and have manually set the wheel size. I am confident the manual setting is correct.

Anyone else experiencing similar problems? I am thinking of removing the magnet from the wheel to force it to use the GPS only for distance calculations.
  • Are you using a GSC-10? When the battery is weak, speed is the first thing to be affected so try changing the battery. Check the alignment of the pick-up arm and magnet is correct. Check your wheel size setting is correct (although that appears not to be the problem given the discrepancy you report on the out and back).

Changing out the battery on the cadence sensor worked.
