Training plans - change activity type possible?

There is great functionality in GC - trainign plans, and there's lots of plans for running.

Usability is great, just choose a plan, one click - it is in calendar in garmin connect, another click - it is sent to device, then just choose training -> calendar on the device and follow the workout.

The downside is that the plans are mostly for running, there is only one plan for cycling which is not heart-rate based.

Hence the idea to use training plan for running for my MTB activities.

10K run is very similar to 1-lap (16km) on MTB on my local trail. It takes around 50 mins to complete (my run for 10K will be around the same time).
2-lap MTB race is very similar to 20K run.
I am putting aside huge difference which is climbs in MTB (missing in my running), but the rest is totally doable - since workouts are structured like "threshold pace in Z4, X mins, Y mins recovery in Z2".

Which is the best way to use running plans and send it to Edge 520?
I have not found a way to change activity type in workouts in training. Is there a way?
Thanks!
