Connect not picking up Segments

Former Member

Hi
I am very disappointed that Garmin is not putting more effort into restoring the Segment feature in Garmin Connect. It has now been two weeks since the error was recognised by Garmin and the Garmin Connect Status page still simply reads:

"DOWN Segments
We are currently experiencing issue (sic) in processing your segment matches. We are actively investigating."
https://connect.garmin.com/en-US/status

It is really annoying as it was the main reason I bought an expensive Edge device. It is now much harder to compare my progress while I am training plus I do not want to be pushed into paying for an expensive Strava Premium upgrade just because Garmin can't be bothered to fix something that was supposed to be free.

Anyone else fed up?

    Segments Not Working

Segments were working ok, but since about October they have stopped working. I have been in touch with product support (Q#:1000104 - Reference ID: 6405675) who stated (after many emails and after I checked that everything is set up correctly and up to date) "I'm afraid that we do not currently have a fix for this issue, however we are currently investigating this issue to get this resolved."

My neighbour, is experiencing identical problems. We are definitely transiting the whole length of many segments but the webpage states that we did not cross any.

I have created many segments in the past, without problems, so tried to create another last night (called Kimberley Park). Usually this would get populated, to a limited degree, almost straight away, but it has now been 24 hours and it has not been populated at all - it still states "The leaderboard is still being created..."

Product support has said that there is a problem, but there does not seem to be much chatter about this problem, so are they just saying that to keep me quiet? Can anyone shed any light on this issue please.

    Segments

Has anyone heard when segments will be back up ? They have been down quite a while now.

As far as I can tell, Garmin has not been forthcoming with any information regarding this. Pretty crazy, it's been down for months.

    Disgusting way to treat customers

Has anyone heard when segments will be back up ? They have been down quite a while now.

Since around November, actually. I've contacted them twice, now - after all, it was one of the main reasons why I invested in my Edge 25. Garmin's response to my follow-up was the same as the earlier one (rather curtly pointing out that 'they'd already replied to me on the matter'... well, yes, but two months previously!), viz:

the issue you are referring to is something that we are aware of and are working hard towards a resolution, however, we do not have a timeframe for this to be completed as yet.

Garmin - THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. At least give your loyal customers (the people who invest in your products and keep you profitable) some concept of a time-frame. It is simply not acceptable to be told 'we know about it, but haven't a clue when we'll sort it. Carry on...'. Any right-minded company with some semblance of customer service honour would offer something more concrete. Yet we, as its buying public, cannot do anything to bring Garmin to task. If I could, I'd take my E25 back to the shop and ask for a refund on the grounds that it's not fit for purpose - though I don't see why my LBS should be penalised for Garmin's shocking attitude toward its customers.

Get your act together Garmin. You're doing yourself no favours...

Fit for Purpose - legal breach?

The current problem with segments not being recognised when we download data from our devices to Garmin Connect has been an ongoing one for too long now. It has been brought to the attention of Garmin for a number of months by Garmin device owners. In some cases, it would appear that Garmin's customer support sends users on a wild goose chase of checking various things before finally acknowledging that it's the 'no segments crossed' issue! Yet, it would also appear, Garmin are well aware of the problem!

My own feedback from Garmin concurs with what other owners are posting in various forums, namely: the issue you are referring to is something that we are aware of and are working hard towards a resolution, however, we do not have a timeframe for this to be completed as yet.

However, legally (at least in the UK) it would appear that Garmin are in breach of contract given that they are not affording transparency in (a) what they are doing to resolve the issue and (b) stating what their intended time-frame for resolving the issue actually is.

In terms of packaging and marketing pitch, all Garmin items state features such as (example from the Edge 25 box): 'Compete with Garmin Connect Segments' and 'Analyse every aspect of your performance'. These invitations to treat (legal-speak) constitute a contract which, given both the aforementioned statements cannot be substantiated since the 'no segments crossed' problem became an ongoing issue, has been broken. Not only are devices rendered 'not fit for purpose', but Garmin are in breach of various legal elements, from contract law through to consumer law (trading standards).

While I'm sure there won't be many owners wishing to go down the time-consuming legal route, it is something that may soon be considered by a few disgruntled owners. In that event, Garmin's defence would struggle against any plaintiff action.
  • Perhaps they are expecting you to use Strava segments now instead.

It also occurred to me that they might be abandoning us to Strava segments!!! All was ok until links to Strava started appearing on Connect.
  • In the German forums a moderator just replied that they expect a fix within next week.

    Well, we will see :-)
