Garmin Connect for Sailing?

I currently use GConnect for tracking my cycling rides and perfectly happy. Today I helped a neighbour with his GPS72H device (used for sailing) - connecting the device to his pc and downloading specific Waypoints into it. My question is:- is there a GConnect environment for sailors? GConnect seems to be aimed mainly at cyclists and runners - I'm guessing you could not use GConnect for sailing because the route would be at sea. My neighbours races in The Solent so over a season the races are generally in the same area. What do these people do to analyse their races/sails like (Garmin) cyclist and runners do?

There is probably a Solent organization, website and forum. I'd check there.
  • I'll try to give an actual substantive answer to the question posed by QUARKRAD.

To do what your neighbor wants probably requires the use of tactical navigation software, Expedition being a good example. I won't go into any more detail here, as that's probably outside the scope of this forum. Garmin's marine software, including HomePort and the iOS apps BlueChart Mobile and Garmin Helm, doesn't really provide GC-like features.
  • I also sail on the Solent ;) , although on a small catamaran rather than a yacht.

I use a Garmin Virb to record my sailing which doesn't sync automatically, as Garmin decided to remove this functionality (way before I had a Virb) but will create a file that can by synched with Garmin Connect, Strava or whatever else I'm interested in adding it to. The fact it is on water rather than land doesn't stop you getting a route, distance, or in my case direction, speed, g-force, altitude etc....

So I guess if the GPS72H creates a .FIT or .GPX file then you could do the same.

    Hope this helps
