Activities center displaying total time insted of moving

Hi,

Activities center wrongly shows total time insted of moving and it leads to fact, that average speed is wrong too, because is counted from total time and not from moving time. If i click on acitivity I can see difference between moving and total time and same for average speed. But I would like to see this in activity center and not need to view each activity details to see real values.

Thanks for help

The "correct" data is a matter of opinion. You argue that the real average speed for an activity should be based on the time for which you were active ie moving time. On the other hand, you could say time doing activity (simply "time" in Garmin stats) should be used. Then again, there is an argument for using elapsed time for a "true" average.

Garmin have made a choice of which to use in a summary view (Activities window) but, as you say, they provide more data in the individual activities windows. By definition, a summary is not going to contain all data so a choice has to be made.

I agree, that which data should be shown is matter of opinion, and its why this decision should be made by user and not by Garmin.
I dont say that one type of data are correct and other ones wrong. Both just provides different informations and should be on users to say, which one are important to them. There should by simply choice to choose to display data for total time or moving time, but this option was taken from user and it is wrong. I still think that for a ride are "moving" data are more relevant, but agree 100%, that some user can have different preferences and should have that choice too.

This option should be add, if it already was, please enlighten me.

Actually, you did say "Activities center wrongly shows total time..." in your original post, thus implying that something else would be correct.

Nevertheless, I do agree that a choice would be a nice addition but I don't see it as a major issue.

    Hello,

meaning of "wrongly shows" .... means that it should show something else to be correct, but doesnt mean that data are wrong. I said and insist on on fact, that GC presents data in a wrong way. Why do you think, that most (if not all) other websites activites trackers show moving time or at least have that option? Because it is, how it should be done. How can I compare my rides, avg speed, heartrate if i make some stops to fix a puncture, to have a pint of beer .... if GC always shows total time.
I just wanted to know, if there is any option to setup that. I can see that it is not available and its pointless to argue about that, you have your opinon (wrong) and I have mine(correct) :-)

    Thanks for previous replies

No need to be so defensive about your wording - perhaps if I had said "correct data set" rather than simply "correct data" you would have been able to appreciate my point. I'll try to be more precise with my terminology next time; perhaps you should do the same.

i think for the sake of argument there should be 2 boxes one to show avg pace over the total time, and one to show avg pace over moving time, I mainly use my watch for competitive swimming training where training is split up into many sets - tonight one of the sets was 12x100m on 2 mins with a moving pace of between 1.12-1.16 per /100m, it would be good to show that in an avg pace tab so that the coach can look at effort over the 12 or full session rather than a standard pace of 2min/100m which is what it currently calculates and shows. I think my pace tonight was pretty good, I could have done all 12 at 1.55/100m with taking 5 secs rest but the stats would still show 2min/100s!! as an avg pace which would have been also working my aerobic system and not speed/Lactate which is what I'm training. Pace by definition is the rate of MOVEMENT over a distance/time, why should NO MOVEMENT be calculated? this setup is more suited to the long distance activities where a rest/Elapsed time will rarely be taken. Therefore these setting only really engage your aerobic fitness which is quite limiting given the fact that whichever form of exercise is done these days are spit into HIIT, Interval, Speed, Circuit, training where rest is part of it all as the science suggests reaching your max HR during training with periods of recovery (whether that be by rest or active recovery) are much better at improving fitness therefore the stats should show the stats when active.

I sync my stats into Starve that for me give a much better accurate representation of how I've trained. would be much better to have it all in one app though!
plus the app should show a comparison table like they do on the internet version. Surely that would engage how your fitness is going?
