Meaning of calories under steps?

In GC I have a widget for Steps, and under that there is a calories value. (Maybe sync'd from my vivofit?)

What does this value represent - the amount of calories I've burnt today?

I have not done any steps or exercise yet so why is this value so high? I've only done 59 steps - that can't possibly equate to 864 calories?

I also sync to MyFitnessPal but that is also showing 0 calories so far.

That count includes calories burned based on your BMR (the calories you burn by just being alive - breathing, blood pumping, etc) They are added throughout the day. There are BMR calculators on the web so you can see about what you'll burn without taking a step all day (I'm at about 2000 cals for example)

So the number you see is your BMR calories+your "just walking around" calories+timed activity calories.
  • Thanks for the explanation Jim. Makes sense.
